Program

The City of Carcassonne is one of the gems of medieval architecture, but upon closer inspection, one can also find traces of antiquity. Octavia Caelius is a Roman citizen from Colonia Julia Carcaso (the ancient name of Carcassonne), and she is well-versed in the mysteries of her city and the looming threat over its inhabitants. Join her to discover late antiquity, its architecture, its tumultuous and sometimes troubled history, and understand how this Gallo-Roman city gradually transformed into an impregnable fortress.

Get to Know Your Guide/Character:

Octavia Caelius is a Roman citizen settled in Gaul, specifically in Carcaso. Her partner is a wine merchant who has made a fortune selling Gallic wines in Ostia (the Port of Rome). Octavia is part of the aristocracy of the late 3rd century CE and is already pondering the fate of the civilization she knows. Indeed, the Roman world seems plagued by numerous troubles that push the inhabitants of Colonia Julia Carcaso to protect themselves.
