For your group tours, schedule a day of immersion in history with a visit to a must-see medieval town: Dinan. Following the steps of an enthusiastic guide, explore the majestic Ducal Tower of Dinan Castle and its ramparts, and wander through the streets and squares of the city where you will learn about the medieval construction techniques that shaped its unique architecture. Depending on your options, you can also combine this discovery with a hike at Cap Fréhel.
Dive into the 15th century in Dinan, guided by Barbe, a stonemason’s apprentice and brickmaker who worked on numerous city projects.
Amidst the conflict between the King of France and the Duke of Brittany, Dinan must fortify itself. The impact is evident in the architecture of the city, as well as in the major cities of Brittany. Discover the daily life of Dinan’s residents as they work on building new defenses for the city.
Equipped with her tools, Barbe will guide you along the ramparts and through the narrow streets of the medieval city, discussing the construction of a rampart or house in the 15th century. She will also share stories about her hometown and the notable figures who have visited it.
Discover the ingenuity of military architecture and the refinement of princely courts from the later centuries of the Middle Ages.
During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore several key features of the castle, such as:
Begin your adventure with a stop at the Cap Fréhel lighthouse, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the sea and cliffs. Then, continue on foot along the 70-meter-high pink sandstone cliffs, which offer spectacular landscapes with blooming heather. Along the way, explore the ornithological reserve, where, from February to mid-July, you can observe thousands of seabirds, including razorbills and black-legged kittiwakes.
You have the option to conclude your hike with a detour to Fort La Latte, a 14th-century medieval castle perched on a rocky promontory. From there, you can enjoy stunning ocean views, adding a historical dimension to your Breton experience.
Please ensure you have good walking shoes, a water bottle, and a hat (as there is little shade). The trail is not recommended for young children and is inaccessible for strollers and individuals with limited mobility.
